Acorn Black Lager

There once was little black cat named Acorn. Everyone thinks they have the best pet, but that’s a subjective opinion. The fact is, Acorn really was the best pet. He was friendly and loving, but not too needy. He didn’t mess the house up or get up on the counters. He wasn’t too loud, hadn’t a mean bone in his body, and he kept himself nice and clean. So yea, the best boy.

In December of 2021, he passed away from cancer in his jaw. One day he was suddenly pawing at it and uncomfortable and within about two weeks, we were having to make that decision which every pet owner dreads. We just wanted to take the pain away, no matter how much it hurt. He was 13 years old.

Fast forward to December 2022 and we wanted to brew something to commemorate our lost friend. Of course, we had to do something super dark. No brainer there.

Enter Acorn Black Lager. At 4.5%, this brew is light enough to spend plenty of quality time with. The grist includes black patent, chocolate malt, and roasted barley, which creates a backbone that is rich and complex. Brewed with an American Lager yeast strain, fermented cold, and lagered near freezing for weeks on end, Acorn is smooth, delicious, and enjoyable. It’s perfect for cool evenings with a fire in the hearth or sunny afternoons watching the game.

But it’s at its absolute best when you’re sitting in your favorite chair, with the lights low, reading something that grips you to the core or conjuring memories of days past. In those small hours, a pet on your lap or a beer in your glass will always help to elevate the moment. If you have both, count your blessings. Either way, we hope the memories and the brew will bring warmth to your heart. It does ours.

We miss you friend…
